Money for the assistance officially ended on recently due to the federal closure, now in its 34th consecutive day with no sign of completion.

Legal Proceedings

The revelation came in a legal document after previous rejections to issue emergency funding on claimed legal grounds. A judicial authority had decided the administration could not withhold program funds because of the shutdown.

Following the court order, the president declared it would be "pleased" to provide vital funding for the program.

Implementation Hurdles

Officials indicated that benefits could commence by Wednesday, but highlighted the need for additional guidance from the judiciary on how to lawfully transfer money for SNAP benefits.

  • Some local governments have stated it will take multiple days or even weeks to issue benefits to low-income households.
  • Crowds have been reported at charities across the United States.
  • In several states, large venue areas were repurposed into help locations.

State Crisis Measures
