From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Planners groups.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
